The “Ins and Outs” of the NICU from a Mom’s Point of View

I love Erin’s ability 8 days after giving birth to her precious “Dudes” to put together 2 coherent sentences, let alone a whole 9 minute video (which you know is LONG for us, but let’s get real…we could talk forever!) on some vital information any mother would want to know just in case her newborn had to be in the NICU.

So, let’s back up. Erin’s twins were born at 35 weeks (which is considered premature for twin pregnancies) because she was showing signs of preeclampsia. Both boys were delivered by c-section within 2 hours of arriving at the hospital and spent the next couple weeks in the NICU allowing their breathing, temperature, and feeding to be monitored and regulated as they adjusted to their brand new, BIG world!

Erin and Jeff are not only amazingly balanced and rational people, but they mastered the whole NICU stay with strength and complete determination to make it as “normal” an experience as they could…all for their boys!

But Erin came home after the first 5 days and said, “I never knew what to expect…this HAS TO BE a topic for our YouTube Channel.” And really, who can say, “No” to a new mommy…let alone an amazing friend who cares for her viewers just as she would for close personal friends!

So, here you go: a crash-course in what to expect IF and ONLY IF your precious one needs the NICU during their infancy. We hope this helps normalize some of the fears that you may have as you may anticipate this, especially if you are pregnant with multiples.
